Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasound testing is another volume process and a non-destructive test.

Ultrasound testing is used to detect lack of homogeneity and defects of all types. This applies to the complete cross-section and the surfaces of test objects made of materials capable of conducting sound.

The process is based on the interaction between an ultrasound impulse emitted into the test object and its reflection, shadowing, refraction or attenuation when meeting boundary surfaces, discontinuities or the surface of a different material.

This influence can be measured in pulse-echo testing systems, radiographic techniques or resonance techniques and is used to detect discontinuities and defects in position, shape and size. Acoustic logging allows the determination of wall thicknesses and material characteristics.
